What a SWOT analysis is

SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It splits what you know about an idea into two halves. Inside is what you control: your product, your team, your costs. Outside is what you do not control: your buyers, your rivals, the platforms and rules around you.

A SWOT earns its place when each point is about one idea and one buyer. A line like “competition is fierce” fits every startup, so it tells you nothing. A line like “parents can get a weekly meal plan from ChatGPT for free” tells you what to go and check.

How to use your SWOT

  1. Run the test under the top threat. It takes about 5 days and needs no code. The result says whether to keep going or rethink.
  2. Read the weaknesses as a build list. Each one is a way the idea can stall. Fix the cheapest one first.
  3. Pick one opportunity to chase. A SWOT with five bets is a wish list. Choose the one you can reach this month.
  4. Copy it or save it as a PDF. The sheet carries your idea and the date, so it works in a deck or a shared doc.

SWOT vs the Business Model Canvas

A SWOT judges an idea. A canvas lays out how the business would run. Use the SWOT first to find the risk worth testing, then sketch the model with the Business Model Canvas generator.

Either one is a set of guesses until data backs it. Before you build, find out whether the idea holds up: run a free validation scan in about a minute.

Frequently asked questions

What is a SWOT analysis?

A SWOT analysis sorts what you know about an idea into four lists. Strengths and weaknesses are inside your control. Opportunities and threats come from the market around you. It turns a loose worry into a short list you can act on.

How does this SWOT generator work?

You describe your idea or business in a sentence or two. The generator writes 3 to 4 points for each of the four lists, ranks the threats by likelihood and impact, and writes a 5-day test for the riskiest one. Every point is about your idea, not a template.

Why does the riskiest threat come first?

A SWOT with a dozen points is easy to read and easy to ignore. Most founders need one question answered first: what could sink this idea? The top threat shows how likely it is, how much it would hurt, and how to check it this week.

Are the points in my SWOT facts?

No. The generator reasons from your description and has no sources behind it, so every point is a guess to check. The test under the top threat tells you how. A free Preuve scan checks the idea against live market data.

Is the SWOT analysis generator free?

Yes. It needs no signup. The riskiest threat and the other three lists show right away. Add your email to unlock the other threats, each with its own 1-week test.
