Business Model Canvas Generator
Auto-fill the 9 blocks of the industry-standard BMC in 10 seconds. Ready to print or refine.
What is the Business Model Canvas?
The business model canvas is a one-page strategic template that describes how a business creates, delivers, and captures value across 9 building blocks. It was developed by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur in 2010 and remains the most-taught canvas framework in MBA and accelerator curricula worldwide. This tool is for early-stage founders who need a structured business model snapshot before pitching investors or starting validation, not a 30-page business plan.
The 9 building blocks, explained
- Customer Segments: the distinct groups of people or organizations you aim to serve.
- Value Propositions: the bundle of products and services that creates value for each segment.
- Channels: how you reach segments to deliver the value proposition (awareness, evaluation, purchase, delivery, after-sales).
- Customer Relationships: the type of relationship each segment expects (self-service, dedicated, automated, communities).
- Revenue Streams: the cash you generate per segment, subscriptions, licensing, transaction fees, ads, asset sales.
- Key Resources: the assets required to make the model work (physical, intellectual, human, financial).
- Key Activities: the operations the business must perform well (production, problem-solving, platform/network).
- Key Partnerships: the network of suppliers, alliances, and joint ventures that reduce risk or acquire resources.
- Cost Structure: the major cost drivers of the model, fixed, variable, economies of scale, economies of scope.
How Preuve's BMC differs from blank canvas templates
Tools like the original Strategyzer canvas and downloadable PDF templates give you 9 empty boxes and assume you already know your model. Preuve's generator instead takes a one-sentence idea and pre-fills every block with a plausible first draft in 10 seconds, then flags blocks where validation evidence is missing or assumptions are weak. The canvas becomes a starting point for skeptical review, not an exercise in filling boxes.
BMC vs Lean Canvas: when to use which
Use the Business Model Canvas when you have a clearer sense of the business and want to map partners, channels, and cost structure for an investor conversation or board update. Use the Lean Canvas (Ash Maurya, 2010) when the idea is pre-product and you need to surface unknowns: problem, solution, key metrics, unfair advantage. Preuve's tool outputs the original BMC structure because it scales better past the early-validation stage.
Current limitation: read-only output (Ship A)
The current Ship A version renders a read-only canvas you can print or export. Inline editing, letting you rewrite blocks live and re-export, ships in the next release (Ship B). For now: generate, screenshot, iterate in your tool of choice. Or run a full validation scan to pressure-test the strongest blocks against real market data.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Business Model Canvas?
A one-page strategic template that describes how a business creates, delivers, and captures value across 9 building blocks: customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships, and cost structure. Created by Alexander Osterwalder.
How is this different from a Canva template?
Canva gives you a blank template. This generator fills it in for you, based on your idea, in seconds. You start with a complete draft, not an empty page.
Is the canvas really a strategy?
The canvas is a set of assertions about how your business could work. It is a starting point, not proof. Validate it against real market data before committing resources (try our Deep Analysis for that).
Can I edit the canvas after generating?
Ship A output is read-only. Upcoming Ship B adds inline editing. For now, use print-to-PDF and edit in any document tool.
